People always say that the love of money is the root of all evil. But is it really? Money in itself is not evil; in fact it is a necessity for survival and progress. But the love of it perhaps leads to greed, which is what is evil.
Money has led a lot of people to evil but not necessarily everyone who has much of it is evil. Only greedy people are evil, but there are a lot of wealthy people who aren't even greedy. There are some who have more than just enough but refuse to share because of their greed to have more.
Giving wholeheartedly begets more blessings and some of the wealthiest people are among the kindest and most charitable beings in this world. But there are also those who are never satisfied even with too much money, and continue to want more. Money gives them control and that's why they're constantly greedy for more.
Money had been invented as a tool for exchange and it has brought a lot of order into the real valuation of trade which was once a frequent matter to disagree upon. Without a valuation tool, there was a tendency to undervalue or overprice the real worth of merchandise if everything was based on physical exchange of products alone.
Like food, water, clothing and shelter, money is a basic necessity. Too much of it can destroy a person if not handled correctly, just as food binging can bring on destructive health conditions. A lack of it also causes misery and desperation, just as a lack of the basic necessities does.
Greed for money is what makes it destructive. Everything about this physical life is actually what is in your heart, and not in what you possess. It's never a sin to have much - ambition and the desire for good things is not evil. It is never wrong to aspire for a better life. That comes with basic human instinct. But to do so at another person's expense through abuse or wrongful acquisition is what brings evil to this world. In short, if you don't fairly earn it, you don't deserve to own it.
