Money and Possessions - The Root of All Evil?

As a Psychic Medium I have lost count of the number of times that people have asked me what I think about money, and I'm sure that they're expecting a saintly answer about total rejection of all money and possessions; well they don't get one.

It is everyone's choice whether to live a very natural life that is mostly possession free and generally hand-to-mouth, or whether to live in this society as it is at the moment with its earning potential, taxes and social responsibilities that seem to cost so much. There is no right or wrong answer and in my encounters with the Spirit World I have found that they rarely mention money nor do they focus on it.

I feel that this is because they have money in perspective. We have chosen to incarnate into a material, physical world to deal with money and possessions. We didn't land up here by accident, popping out of the womb with the opening line "I'm sorry, I thought this was a mountain in Tibet, did I take a wrong turning?" Our intention was to land up exactly where we are.

Now, if you take a £20.00 note (or similar in your currency) put it on a table, weight it down with something and leave it there I can guarantee you that it won't start any wars, nor will it do evil. It is a piece of paper that will sit there until you or someone else picks it up and puts it in your purse or wallet.

Money is just an excuse for what certain people want to do in its name. Money is not and never has been the root of all evil, people are the root of all evil and there is no point us trying to blame gold, silver, diamonds, emeralds or paper money for the lengths we will go to have them - that is all about us.

Wars have been fought over money, lands and possessions because someone has wanted what someone else has but could not be bothered to go and get it for themselves, and then that someone else tries to take it back.

That isn't about money and possessions, that's entirely about us, and if you consider it for a moment you will perhaps realise that money and possessions are a good test for us to see how we are and how we're doing Spiritually.

We can use them as a measure of whether we're all take, all give, or nicely balanced. We can see whether we use the word kind or are kind by the amount we give to charity. We can note the effort we put into buying just the right present, and review whether we keep every penny for ourselves or do what we can where we can to help.

If we're constantly showing off our newest, latest 'whatever' then we probably have an ego problem. If we're constantly getting into debt to keep up with the Joneses then we definitely have a common-sense problem, not to mention an identity crisis. If, however, our possessions are about creating a comfortable happy home, and a future for our children, or they bring back memories of good times and the people who have given them to us, then they take on a whole new meaning.

As I said earlier, we chose to incarnate into western society and there is nothing loving and giving in holding our children back to fulfill our own personal need to be saintly. Children deserve every chance to make whatever they need to of their lives, whether that's priest or police officer, high-powered business person or charity worker. They have the right to the education to help them create their future. After all, it takes a fortune to succeed in politics and what if one day we earn truly Spiritual world leaders? Think about that.

The taxes we pay help to take care of the less fortunate members of our respective societies. They pay for schools, law enforcement, hospitals, care for the elderly, etcetera, and I have no problem in helping to provide for those causes. Let's be scarily honest, how many people would give if they weren't forced to? It's an interesting question isn't it.

I once told my husband - who is a business person - that business was the root of all evil. I am ex National Health Service and local government and I obviously have a great deal of respect for those organisations and the work they do to care for others. However, he pointed out that there wouldn't be any money to keep those organisations functioning if business didn't generate income for the country. It was an excellent point.

As a Spiritual worker I've obviously struggled with the subject of money on a personal level, and one day I gave up and asked my Guide about it. He said something like "We wish that every Spiritual person in the world were rich because you would know not to keep everything for yourselves." I must point out though that he didn't mean every Spiritual worker, you don't have to be a Spiritual worker to be Spiritual.

So you see, you don't need to be afraid of money or apologise for having it. We all have the choice in life to reach for the stars, be content where we are or be lazy. We all have the choice to work for others by giving our time or our money. Both are equally useful and equally to be respected.

I know that we don't always have the choice as young people, for instance my parents took me out of school at the age of 16 when I had expected to go to University. I won't go into the whys because that's old news, but the fact is they did and I began my working 'career' without a meaningful exam to my name. For years I struggled in dead-end jobs until I finally found a way to go to university and get the degree I had always wanted (and another one). It is true that my husband helped me, but I had signed up for the Open University before I met him so I was prepared to fund it myself.

Even if you aren't born with every advantage, your parents can't afford or don't believe in higher education, or you don't have an academic brain, that doesn't mean you can't make something of your life. Let's face it, needing a plumber or electrician can be costly!

Your life will be about whether you are ready to make something of it and your finances will follow. Your possessions will be about whether you show them off or love them because of who gave them to you. Your kindness will either be there on full display or it won't, and no amount of money or lack thereof will make one iota of difference to who you are.

So take the same approach as the Spirit World, get on with your life and look after others as best you can.

Is Money the Root of All Evil Or Does it Just Allow Us to Get What We Want in Life?

There's an old saying that money is the root of all evil. But in reality that's not actually the case. At its most basic, money is just some ink on a dead tree or some melted down metal or - even more likely nowadays - a few electrons on a computer somewhere. In and of itself, money is neutral.

But, being human, that doesn't stop us from assigning money a personality.

And we tend to associate a lot of negative things with money. "Filthy rich" for example. This deep rooted belief structure is actually preventing us from attracting money.

Just because money doesn't have a personality doesn't mean it doesn't get attracted by people who are relaxed around it. Much like a dog can sense whether or not your afraid of it, money does the same.

Sound far fetched?

Just read up on the lottery winners who end up a few years later with less money than they had before their big win. It's actually deeper than money having feelings. It's our own, internal, view of money that determines whether we'll allow it to join us in our life or whether we'll repel it at the slightest opportunity.

All of which means that if you want to attract money into your life, you need to change how you think about it.

Work out where your feelings lie at the moment. Then dissect each feeling and discard any negative feelings - no matter how small - that you may associate with money.

You'll then find yourself slowly coming to realize that money is actually your friend and that by befriending it you can use it to bring near enough whatever you want into your life. How cool is that?

Money is the root of all evil.

You sometimes hear people say negative things about money and for the most part these are the people who have none.

Some people will tell you that money can't buy you love. While this is true, it is a ridiculous statement. Love is an emotion, not a product available at the local grocery store. Do people who say this believe that you think you can actually buy love? Are they just expressing negative feelings for money because of their lack of it?

No matter what people say about money, the fact remains that is a vital part of life today. Money remains the only standardized trade for goods, services, information, personal debts and travel.

Without money you can't properly educate yourself. You can learn the things you are capable of learning or expand your awareness.

Without money you can't afford to eat the food that properly nourishes your body and gives you energy and vitality.

Without money you can't spare the time to properly exercise or have the amount of leisure to relax and put your mind at ease.

Without money you can't spend any considerable amount of time doing the things you love, and this is vital to your sanity.

Without money you can't travel and experience or understand a variety of cultures and societies.

Are all these things evil?

No they are not. In fact it would be hard to imagine having the lack of happiness in the presence of the things listed above.

The fact also remains that the good you can do on this planet is strictly limited to your presence, without substantial financial backing. I am not telling you that you shouldn't personally help people. I am saying that while you are personally help people, the money you have could be traveling the world building schools and hospitals, food banks and recycling plants. Your money could be researching the cure for diseases and making advancements in solar power and bio fuel.

Are these things evil?

I think people would be amazed how much free time they had if they weren't worried about money. Free time they could spend doing a multitude of things that would leave the planet in a better state than it was before they arrived.

Are any of these things mildly wrong? So who could call them evil?

Is Money Really the Root of All Evil?

Is money evil? Many people think that money is not spiritual and materialist - why is this? What are your beliefs? Are they even your beliefs at all?

This is a subject that I have been battling with for a long time now. Coming from a poor background and being surrounded by poverty for a large percentage of my life, I have certainly picked up a great deal of negativity around money. However, I keep thinking more and more these days... why do people belief that having no money is spiritual? Why are we holding ourselves back from fulfillment and freedom by believing that lack is good for us?

Ask yourself this... Do you agree that having no food and shelter is spiritual? Is it spiritual to have sections of society with no homes and no warmth? Did you know that the biggest cause of marriage breakups and ill health is a consequence of financial worries and stress? How are we supposed to help those less fortunate without the flow of money?

Money gives us the ability to be free... to live a life of ultimate freedom! I argue it is 'not' spiritual to live a life of worry, stress, depression and bad health because you cant pay your bills, pay for clothing, buy healthy nutritious food and keep up health insurance payments. How is this spiritual?

It makes me wonder.... Are we doing each other a huge dis-service by spreading the word that people with money are greedy? That money is the root of all evil? That money is not important! Who told you this anyway and why do you believe their view so much?

I'm not saying money is everything but what money represents is pretty damn important!

With money comes freedom! With money comes choice! With money comes health! With money comes experiences! With money comes opportunity!

Now let's reverse the analogy that money is not spiritual for a moment!

Imagine this... You give 10% of your overall income per month to charities of your choice. You no longer worry about paying your bills and keeping a roof over your head. You are able to eat food of your choice... fresh meat, fresh fruit and fresh vegetables. You no longer need to live in a place full of pollution... you can live in the beautiful countryside or by the sea. You no longer worry about how you can pay your health insurance or those wonderful trips worldwide that enable you to experience different cultures and grow from the inside out. You can get massages on a regular basis and go out for dinner and go on dates. You can buy the books you love and attend courses and classes that inspire you.

Tell me now that money is not spiritual? Tell me now that money is the root of all evil? Why is it that only people with no money tend to belief these negative points about money anyway?

We are supposed to live a life of happiness, abundance, success & fulfillment. A life packed with incredible experiences and creations. And what is even more ironic is that spiritual teachers tell you this. Abraham Hicks, Donald Walsh (Conversations with God), Joe Vitale, John Assaraf... I could go on and on and on. All spread the beauty and importance of abundance, prosperity and wealth... in all areas of your being!

Do yourself a favour and begin to feel worthy of all you desire! Open yourself up to receive everything you want... freedom, wealth and prosperity. You can give, give, give... all day long and every day of the week, but if you are not open to also receive... you will create resistance and there will be a lack of flow in your life and the world.

Feed your soul with rich experiences, with incredible organic food, with an environment that supports your health and with wondrous experiences.

Have you heard this phrase? Do you believe it?

Is money the root of all evil or is  it your belief of money that is the root of your evil?

Let me explain....

I was walking with my mother today in downtown Pacific Grove, CA.  We were waiting for the animal rescue to open so that I could give up my beloved cats; but, that's another story. 

While we were walking we were looking at the small shops on Lighthouse Avenue and one of them was a 'higher end' store and my mother commented as she passed, "too rich for my blood."

To a "T" it was the exact phrase her father, bless him as he's passed away, used to say as he would walk past a store that had things he wanted but never allowed himself to afford because of his limiting beliefs and his pure disdain of rich people.  He would consistently make the comment about rich people are A** H**es and then would wander into McDonald's for a cup of coffee and a sit down chat with others who shared his beliefs.  Like minded individuals bringing into their lives others who shared their scarcity values. My grandfather's beliefs were centered around a jealousy of an enviable position he wanted so to be in yet had no idea how to create it for himself.

Back to my mother and her comment... Her words were so succinct, so in form, so much a part of his (her father's) background and thinking that I surely thought he had embodied her for that moment as she spoke those words.  It was kind of freaky to tell you the truth.

My mother is a fisherman, a canvas maker, a sail maker, a woodworker, and a very creative and ingenious woman when it comes to creating something out of nothing.  But, like her father, she has limiting beliefs about money.  Money has always been a big problem because there has never been enough and as is normal for the baby boomers, they don't spend what they don't have.  Growing up with parents raised in the Great Depression, theirs is a consistent reminder of what they don't have:  Money.

Now that I have allowed myself to be reconditioned by the words of Jeffery Combs, Ferny Ceballos, Aaron "Parky" Parkinson, Jay Kubassek, Danielle Wilson, John Jackson, Brian Fanale, Norbert Orlecwicz and Jonathan Budd, to name a few, I listen to people with a clearer ear.  I hear the derision in their voice, the intonation as they say, "well, it's ok to want money, but you'll never be happy" as if to say that money will make you unhappy.  Because to them money makes them unhappy.  They never have enough, always want more and are consistently living in the poverty mindset that consumes 97+% of our population.

You don't hear any of the above-mentioned say they're unhappy... you hear them say that they'll wake up sometimes not feeling like the million bucks they've made, but that doesn't mean they're unhappy.  It means they're HUMAN.

Money is not the evil; it's your belief in money that is your evil.   Honestly, your poverty mindset serves no one, not even yourself.  It is a mindset of victim and it's weak.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to be wealthy, there's nothing wrong with creating your own destiny.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with not wanting to wait for a bailout, for someone else (e.g., the government) to pick up the slack in your life only to be disillusioned by what they told you would happen and what actually happened to your MONEY...

I am not afraid to put myself on a risky, slippery slope to create my destiny.  My goal is to make money and a lot of it.  My goal is also to help others make money, and a lot of it.  My goal is to have 240 people on my team by March 31st, 2011 creating $10k a month in residual income.  That's my goal.  There's nothing wrong with making money.  There's nothing wrong with wanting a better life than what you have right now.

This doesn't negate your current lifestyle. Just because you want something better in your life doesn't mean you're not grateful for your current state of affairs; it means you want to create better for yourself. There's nothing wrong with wanting better, wanting a better life, a better bank account, a better car or a better place to live for yourself and your family (four-legged or otherwise).

If you think you don't deserve to make money you never will make it. Just like my grandfather, bless him, he created his misery within his lack of courage to take the next step to create the destiny he so wanted in his life because he truly believed that money was the root of all evil.

Money - Is It Really The Root Of All Evil?

Throughout history, wise men and women have commented on money. Publius Syrus stated, "Money alone sets the world in motion." Benjamin Franklin later said, "Remember that time is money." But, the most famous of all is perhaps, "Money is the root of all evil." Unfortunately this is a misquote from The Bible found in the book of Timothy chapter 6:10 which reads, "The love of money is the root of all evil." Just adding those two words makes a huge difference.

I can't help but think of all the good that has been done with money. For example, Bill and Melinda Gates gave over 3 billion to their foundation. Think of all the charities around the world. People such as the Rockerfellers, and Ted Turner seem to be obsessed with giving money away. In 2005, Slate.com's list of 60 most generous donors totaled $4.3 billion-with the smallest donations at $20 million and the largest at over $400 million.

Who benefits from all this philanthropy? All kinds of people and places and programs benefit from donations. McDonalds uses the money to build shelters with a place to sleep and food. The Gates foundation is organized around fighting killer diseases around the world. Other charities give to environmental and animal welfare organizations.

Of course, the average person is not greedy when it comes to giving either. The average American gives over $400 a year to various charities, and that doesn't count money given to religious organizations or the value of personal property they donate.

Of course, there are plenty of wealthy people out there who don't care. They wouldn't give anyone a dime. They love money just for the sake of being rich, and refuse to share their wealth with others. A wealthy boss of mine once said, "The only thing having money does is free you from worrying about money."

Back to our quotes, they are all great. Having money is indeed enjoyable. Not having it is indeed stressful and unpleasant, especially when the bills just keep coming. And remember, money does make the world go 'round. And, time is money.

You work an 8 to 10 hour day in exchange for money. The time doesn't belong to you, it belongs to your boss. The company decides how much money your time is worth. Wouldn't you like to be in control of your own money and time? Think of all the money you could save by starting your own home-based business. Your income is based on the amount of work you put in. You would save on the commute. You wouldn't have to feel under paid or frustrated. You could double, triple, or quadruple your income.

Benjamin Franklin understood that a person should be able to decide what his or her own time is worth. There is great wisdom in considering a home-based business which puts you are in control.
